Dually Deceived - PoemI never claimed that I was clever
I never said that I was sure
I only thought that I saw something
And when intrigued; sought to know more
I wasn't sure what I would find
And there's no way I could have known it
For fate had stranger things in mind
Than what had entered mine that moment
Perhaps I wouldn't have been so surprised
Had it not been quite wholly unexpected
But you'd so intricately spun your lies
I'd have never guessed you were deceptive
At once I collected the evidence
And when I set it in your sight
I wanted you to deny it
But instead you turned a ghostly white
My heart sunk lower in my chest
Than I'd ever thought it could in a lifetime
Yet somehow it sunk much lower still
And as you confessed, I wept the whole time
You finished with a fallen tear
And the last word you breathed was 'sorry'
Everything was just as I'd feared
Nay, it was a far more wretched story

And I didn't know what to do...
I didn't know what to say...
